I am truly frightened. On the news a physiologist was talking about the doomsday and said that sciensts made a mistake telling everyone nothing would happen and now we are trying to correct ourselves and get the word out so everyone can be prepared. After I watched that I started browsing the web and came across a site that talked about bunkers and how the president isn't saying anything about it because he knows the doomsday will happen. If this was to happen would we someone give us some kind of warning? I don't buy the nibiru deal but I am pretty scared that something else will happen. I know most people making these claims are not credible but I've came across a few news segments with scientists talking who seem to really believe that we should prepare ourselves. |

I am scared that an asteroid or comet will hit and destroy us all. I don't think the right things are being done to prevent a asteroid or comet hit. I read that you said that we could be hit with zero warning except for the spark of light in the sky. How can that be when we have all this technology? Mankind is destroying itself and we are doing nothing to prevent it. Will I even get a chance to live my life? |

Please don’t lump all asteroids and comets together. None of the Near Earth Asteroids or comets is large enough to destroy us all. NASA has surveyed the Near Earth Asteroids, and none of those is even large enough to cause a mass extinction. Such a hit may happen someday, but that would be millions ... Click here for more.

Assuming an asteroid or planetoid (difference?) were a threat to Earth, what steps would NASA take to minimize or avert catastrophe?

Several years ago a NASA scientist mentioned that you think it possible a colliding asteroid could project a volume of water high enough into space for it to freeze and fall back as a solid mass of significant size. I have scanned the literature without finding your or other recognition of this possibility, although the million shallow elliptical basins I've studied were obviously formed by low hypervelocity ice impact. Do you plan on expanding your comments to aid geologists in explaining grouped oriented landforms?

Possible impactors are called Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs) or Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). There is no reason for anyone to be scared of this newly discovered free-floating planet. It is a hundred light years away, for goodness sake! That is about a million billion km.
