The Australian Centre for Astrobiology (ACA) became an Affiliate Member of the NASA Astrobiology Institute on January, 2001. The ACA is located at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

The Australian Centre for Astrobiology is building its membership, with increasing involvement in astrobiology research and education. Its members include university faculty and research scientists.

Subject disciplines of its members include:

Microbiology
1) geochemistry
2) planetary science
3) Their research areas include:

Origins of life on Earth
1) the search for life elsewhere
2) geochemistry and life (e.g., biogenic/nonbiogenic origin of proterozoic iron accumulations on Earth)
3) extreme environments for microorganisms
